Finding care

When a second medical opinion may help

How an independent consultation can help you understand a diagnosis, treatment choice, or next step without delaying urgent care.

Healthcare professionals reviewing patient information

General information only. This guide does not diagnose a condition or replace a consultation. For a medical emergency, seek immediate care at an appropriate facility.

A second opinion is another clinical assessment

An independent clinician reviews the available information and may agree with the existing plan, suggest questions to ask, or recommend further assessment. It is not simply a confirmation service.

Bring complete information

Share the diagnosis you received, prescribed medicines, test results, scans or reports, allergies, and the questions you want clarified. Missing context can limit what another clinician can responsibly say.

  • The original diagnosis or clinical note
  • Test and imaging reports
  • Current treatment and medicines
  • Your specific questions or concerns

Do not delay urgent treatment

A second opinion should not delay emergency care or time-sensitive treatment. If symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, seek appropriate physical care immediately.
